Step 1: Prepare Your Fondant Glue
Let’s get everything ready for a smooth decorating experience!
Color Mixing:
- Mix two parts brown with one part white to achieve a medium brown for the ears and nose.
- Reserve dark brown for the antlers, eyes, and mouth.
Make the Glue:
- Fold a piece of paper towel, wet it lightly, and wring it out.
- This will act as your "glue" for attaching fondant parts.
Set Up Your Tools:
- Keep your small knife or kitchen tool handy for trimming fondant.
- Use toothpicks to adjust and position parts as needed.
Handle Fondant Properly:
- Lightly dust your workspace and fondant with powdered sugar or cornstarch to prevent sticking.
- Be cautious not to use too much, as it can dry out the fondant.
- Use water sparingly to avoid melting it.
Step 2: Create the Eyes
Bring your reindeer's eyes to life with these simple steps!
Make the Eye Whites:
- Roll two white fondant pieces into slightly larger than 0.5” balls. Flatten them into ovals.
Make the Pupils:
- Knead some dark brown fondant and roll into 0.5” balls.
- Split each in half and flatten to create two ovals for the pupils.
Assemble the Eyes:
- Wet the back of the dark brown ovals with the paper towel glue and attach them to the white ovals.
- Then, make two tiny, flat white balls and glue them onto the pupils for highlights.
Attach to Cookie:
- Place the eyes onto the cookie using the glue, ensuring proper alignment.
Step 3: Add the Ears
Give your reindeer those adorable ears!
Prepare Medium Brown Fondant:
- Mix two parts brown with one part white to achieve a medium brown color.
Shape the Ears:
- Make two 0.5” balls from the medium brown mix.
- Shape them into teardrops and dent them with the side of your pinkie finger or a tool to create a natural look.
Attach the Ears:
- Glue the ears in place using the damp paper towel.
Step 4: Shape the Nose
No reindeer is complete without a charming nose!
Make the Nose Base:
- Using the medium brown mix, create a 0.75” ball and flatten it into a soft circle about 1” wide.
Add Highlight:
- Make a small noodle from white fondant and glue it to one side of the nose for a shiny highlight.
Attach to Cookie:
- Use the damp paper towel to attach the nose to the cookie between the eyes and mouth.
Step 5: Add the Antlers
Create majestic antlers for your reindeer!
Prepare Dark Brown Fondant:
- Use dark brown fondant for the antlers.
Make the Base Antlers:
- Roll two dark brown balls, each just under 0.75”.
- Taper them into long teardrop shapes.
Add Details:
- Roll two 0.5” balls, break each into two pieces, and shape them into long teardrop shapes.
Assemble the Antlers:
- Glue the small teardrops to the sides of the long teardrops with the wet paper towel.
Attach to Cookie:
- Place the antlers on the top of the cookie, securing them firmly.
Step 6: Add Accents
Add those special touches to complete your reindeer’s look!
Make the Accents:
- Roll small white fondant balls and flatten them slightly.
Attach Accents:
- Gently wet the back sides and apply them to the cheeks and forehead of the reindeer for a rosy, festive appearance.
Step 7: Final Touches
Ensure everything is perfect and ready to enjoy!
Trim and Adjust:
- Use your small knife to make any necessary adjustments, ensuring all parts are securely attached.
