What You’ll Need:

  • A small knife or kitchen tool
  • Toothpicks
  • Damp paper towel
  • Template (included in Kit)
  • Powdered sugar or cornstarch (optional)

Prepare Your Fondant Glue

Let’s get everything ready for a smooth decorating experience!

Make the Glue:

  • Fold a piece of paper towel, wet it lightly, and wring it out.
  • This will act as your "glue" for attaching fondant parts.

Set Up Your Tools:

  • Keep your small knife or kitchen tool handy for trimming fondant.
  • Use toothpicks to adjust and position parts as needed.

Handle Fondant Properly:

  • Lightly dust your workspace and fondant with powdered sugar or cornstarch to prevent sticking.
  • Be cautious not to use too much, as it can dry out the fondant. Use water sparingly to avoid melting it.
  • For optimal results, it is recommended to work with cold fondant as it becomes easier to control. Additionally, using a chilled cake will provide better stability when applying the fondant, preventing it from becoming overly soft or sticky during the process.
Tip: Clean your hands before changing colors! White fondant especially picks up other colors.

Step 1: Craft the Snowman's Hat

Let's kick off the fun by making your snowman's charming hat!

  • Grab half of the blue fondant and knead it until it's soft and smooth.
  • Roll it out using a rolling pin or a drinking glass.
  • Using the template, cut out a half-circle about 5 inches wide and just over 2 inches tall.
  • Gently place the hat on top of your cake, aligning it with the template for a perfect fit.

Step 2: Add Fluffy Hat Details

Time to make that hat festive and cozy!

  • Use about 1/3 of the white fondant.
  • Roll a 1.25-inch ball and then roll it into a snake shape.
  • Create a fluffy texture by lightly pressing with a toothpick or knife to resemble fur.
  • Place the fur trim just below the blue hat on your cake.

For the pom-pom:

  • Roll a 1-inch ball from the remaining white fondant and slightly flatten it.
  • Texture it to look extra fluffy.
  • Attach the pom-pom to the side of the hat, using the template as your guide.

Step 3: Decorate the Hat with Snowballs

Let's sprinkle some magic onto the hat!

  • Roll small pieces of white fondant into several equally sized balls.
  • Gently flatten them.
  • Attach them to the blue hat in a fun, symmetrical pattern, following the template.

Step 4: Bring Your Snowman's Face to Life

Now for the most exciting part—giving your snowman his friendly face!

Use about half of the black fondant.

For the eyes:

  • Roll two 0.75-inch black fondant balls.
  • Shape them into ovals.
  • Roll two tiny white fondant balls and press them onto the black ovals to add a twinkle to his eyes.
  • Position the eyes on top of the cake, leaving space for his carrot nose and cheerful smile.

For the mouth:

  • Roll five 0.5-inch black fondant balls.
  • Arrange them below where the nose will go, forming a happy grin. Use the template to guide you.

Step 5: Add the Carrot Nose

No snowman is complete without his bright orange carrot nose!

  • Take the orange fondant and roll it into a 1-inch ball.
  • Shape it into a long cone about 1.75 inches long to resemble a carrot.
  • Insert a toothpick halfway into the wide end for support.
  • Attach the nose to the cake between the eyes and mouth.

Step 6: Button Him Up

Let's give your snowman some classic buttons!

  • Use the remaining black fondant.
  • Roll three 0.75-inch balls and slightly flatten them.
  • Attach them to the front of the cake in a vertical line to form buttons.

Step 7: Wrap Him in a Cozy Border

Time to keep your snowman warm and stylish!

  • Use the remaining blue fondant.
  • Roll it into a ball, then into a snake about 18 inches long.
  • Wrap the border around the base of the cake, trimming any excess if needed.

Congratulations! You did it—your Snowman Cake is ready for some holiday cheer!
